THE Album: Drummertime by Mark Walker

Drummertime is my solo album with music from various points in my career, including songs and music from Airdrum, (a cartoon series I worked on with Adam Hargreaves and Flicks Films), three tracks from Drum'n'Didg with Shining Bear, four tracks recorded with world music instruments from the Horniman Museum, Meinl percussion and Zildjian gongs and cymbals, and a couple of bonus drum mixes. The Court of King Rolf

Towards the end of 1999 I came up with the idea of doing a tribute book for Rolf Harris to coincide with his 70th birthday in March 2000, interviewing many of the stars and cohorts he has worked with throughout his career. After securing Rolf's approval, and the publisher's backing I had only two months to put it together. During that time I talked to over seventy people including legends such as George Martin, John Cleese, Kate Bush, Tim Farris, Michael Parkinson, Joanna Lumley, Barry Humphries, Chris Tarrant and Sir Harry Secombe, not to mention members of Rolf's family and many of the behind the scenes people who have been responsible for his shows over the last four decades. Xtreme Drums by Mark Walker

A drum book and CD for beginners teaching the basics of kit playing in a fun and humorous way with the help of "Skins" a cartoon character who teaches the drums in his own inimitable style. As well as a free CD that contains play along versions of the lessons in the book, there are ten recommended artists with tips on how to play in their style. The artists include Chad Smith, Charlie Watts, Travis Barker, Meg White, Ringo Starr, Buddy Rich and Larry Mullen. I had a lot of fun writing the book and recording the CD, and think it offers a new and original approach to learning the drum kit (but I would say that, wouldn't I)?

Leanie Kaleido

I don't do many sessions these days but recently I did the drums for Leanie Kaleido's album Karamelien, and if you like mellow, quirky, melodic songs with interesting tales of exploding silicone implants, peeping toms, travelling witches and occasionally love, then she's definitely worth checking out.
